BAATIMET SUSPENSION

Composition:
Each 5ml film coated suspension contains:
Ofloxain 50mg + Metronidazole Benzoate 100mg

Indication of OFLOXACIN:
Genito urinary, respiratory, Gastro-intestinal, Skin & Soft tissue infections. Peritonitis, Gonorrhoea.

Dosage:
Adults: 200-400mg daily usually for 5-7 days depending on type and severity of infection. Doses greater than 400 mg should be given in 2 divided doses. Urinary tract infection : 200-800mg daily lower respiratory tract infection : 400-800mg daily Gonorrhoea: 400mg as a single dose. Not recommended for children.

Contra-Indications:
Hypersensitivity to 4-quinolones. History of epilepsy.

Special Precautions:
Exposure to strong sun light and ultra violet rays should be avoided. Driving or operating machinery. Renal insufficiency, Psychiatric disorders concomitant use of aluminium and magnesium containing antacids. Paediatrics: Safety not established in children below 16 years. Pregnancy: Contraindicated. Lactation: Contraindicated. Elderly: Safe.

Side Effects:
Hypersensitivity reactions,skin reactions, CNS disturbances,G.I upset pseudomembranous colitis.Transient increase in liver enzymes. Rarely, joint muscle pain,bone marrow depression.

Drug Interactions:
Antacids containing magnesium and aluminium reduce absorption. Sucralfate reduces absorption. Inhibits GABA receptor binding. Probenecid decreases elimination.

Indication of METRONIDAZOLE
Amoebiasis, giardiasis, trichomonas vaginitis, anaerobic infections (after colorectal or pelvic surgery, appendectomy, osteomyelitis and abscesses of brain or lung), ulcerative gingivitis.

Dosage:
Orally 400 mg 8 hrly, by rectum 1 gm 8 hrly for 3 days followed by 1gm 12 hrly. i.v 500 mg 8 hrly. all upto 7 days.

Contra-Indications:
Neurological disease, blood dyscrasias, first trimester of pregnancy.

Special Precautions:
Lactation, disulfiram like intolerance to alcohol, phenobarbitones.

Side Effects:
Anorexia, nausea, metallic taste, abdominal cramps, headache, glossitis, dryness of mouth, dizziness, peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects, seizures. Thromboflebitis of injected vein.

Drug Interactions:
Disufiram-like reaction with alcohol. Enhances action of coumarin anticoagulants. Blood levels increased by cimetidine. Effect reduced by phenobarbitone. Acute psychoses with disulfiram. Additive/synergistic effect with other microbials.
