MYDOXI TABLET
In Treating Acute Infections
Composition:
Each film coated tablet contains:
Cefpodoxime Proxetil 100mg/200mg
CEFPODOXIME PROXETIL:
It is a bactericidal and kills bacteria by interfering with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. It is stable in the presence of beta lactamase enzyme, a number of beta lactamase producing organisms resistant to penicillin/other cephalosporins are likely to be susceptible to cefpodoxime.
Indication of CEFPODOXIME PROXETIL:
URTI including pharyngitis and tonsilitis: 100 mg bid for 5-10 days. Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: 200 mg bid for 10 days. Acute community acquired pneumonia: 200 mg bid for 14 days. Actue uncomplicated gonorrhoea: 200 mg single dose. Uncomplicated urinary tract infection: 100 mg bid for 7 days. Skin and skin structure infections: 400 mg bid for 7 to 14 days
Contra-Indications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Penicillin senstitive patients. For patients with severe renal impairment the dosing interval is to be prolonged to 24 h. In patients maintained on haemodialysis, dose frequency to be adjusted to 3 times a week after hemodialysis. Paediatrics: Safety and efficacy in infants less than 5 months of age have not been established. Pregnancy: Avoid during pregnancy unless there are compelling clinical indications.
Side Effects
Diarhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, colitis and headache.
Drug Interactions
Antacids decreases the peak plasma levels, oral anticholinergics delay the attainment of peak plasma level. Probenecid inhibits renal excretion.
